Treatment One

Years in bahiagrass At the beginning of the experiment, plots in 0 years bahiagrass (2 years soybean production) were compared to 2 years bahiagrass pretreatment in 8 different blocks. Each year, additional plots within each block with an additional year of bahiagrass pretreatment were brought into production to increase the number of bahiagrass treatments that could be contrasted.

A separate experiment was run on four plots that been in bahiagrass pretreatment for 22 years. The purpose of this experiment was to assess how long it took for continued vegetable production to diminish soil quality for soils that had been enhance by bahiagrass pretreatments.

Treatment Two

Additionally, each plot was divided into subplots contrasting strip tillage and conventional tillage.

Once plots were brought in to vegetable production, all plots were treated exactly the same (except tillage) and followed the same yearly rotation of cash and cover crops.
